Please note: 

  • The order of visits and excursions can be modified according to local conditions (i.e. state of roads, market days…).
  • If some visits and / or tours could not be done due to external conditions, they will be replaced when possible.
  • There are long distances between cities and towns, and often roads or tracks are in bad conditions.
  • It is highly recommended to bring a sole big bag for the trip plus one or two back packs.

Equipment to bring:

We try to provide all essential travel material, such as life vests, tarps, machetes, chain saw (if needed for a tree fall), but it is advisable that you are well prepared for your stay. Please bring a rain coat, hat, and sun blocker. 

 

  • Hat, sun glasses, sun blocker.
  • Water proof bag (ideally sealine, ortlieb…) for your clothes and material and a small bag when entering the forest – ideally always use waterproof bags.
  • Simple shoes to walk – do not invest a lot of money in shoes as you will occasionally enter into water and even waterproof shoes will get wet inside. You can take simple plastic sandals or Tevas or surf shoes or rain boots.
  • Binoculars and video/photo cameras, ideally a 400mm lens.
  • Insect repellent, shirt with long sleeves and long trousers (for the evening, particularly in Conkouati Park and while walking in the dense forest). All beds have mosquito nets.
  • Security locks.
  • Torches (ideally head torch) and enough batteries.
  • Rain coat or poncho and a small umbrella.

Tour Plan

N’Djamena – Massaguet – Bahr el Gazal
  • We drive from N’Djamena to Massaguet, where the trail to Moussouro starts.
  • Night in tents by the village of Cheddra.
Bhar el Gazal – Bathandjenna

We reach the small town of Moussouro, where we load on gas and food. Then we go on through a landscape of small hills, trees and sand. Night in tents.

Bathandjenna Kalait

The trail becomes more flat and sandy. The itinerary goes through Bathandjenna’s wells, where many gazelles come to get water. Rest and night in tents.

Kalait- Bichigara – Ounianga Kebir

We visit the small town of Kalait, where sits the oldest mar-ket of the region. Departure to the north, towards Bichigara. Visit of the cave paintings. Then we hit the rocky road to Bir Kora. The trail is flat but sandy on our way to Ounianga Kebir, the biggest lake of Ounianga.

Ounianga Kebir – Ounianga Serir

Visit of Ounianga Kebir, of Katam Lake and of Ounianga Serir, with its beautiful lake. 

Ounianga Serir Teguedeï – Demi – Mourdi – Fada

We leave Ounianga on the ancient salt camel train road. Visit of Taguedei and Demi salt marshes, crossing different dunes. From Demi, the trail climbs on mountains to reach Fada oa-sis, which is the region capital and gate to the Ennedi massif.

Fada – Abaïké – Bachiké – Archeï

Visit of Abaikhè, of the Bachiké guelta with its magnificent gorges and arrival at the village of Archeï. 

Archeï Terkei – Manda Gueli

In the morning, visit to the Archeï guelta to take a glimpse at crocodiles. Afternoon visit of cave paintings in Terkei and Manda Gueli. 

Manda Gueli – Deli – Tokou – Oyo-Aloba – Ba-chikélé

Visit of the highlights of the Ennedi : the Oyo labyrinth, the great Arch of Aloba, the elephant arch in Tokou and visit of the Bachikélé guelta.

Bachikele Kalait

Breakfast and departure to Bachikelé towards Kalait, through the desert, to reach the south. Night in tent.

Kalait Biltine – Abeché

Breakfast and departure to the town of Abeche. The itinerary goes through the villages of Arada and Biltine, all the way to Abeche, Tchad’s second city. From Abeche, its a normal road to N’Djamena.

Abeché – Mongo

Crossing of the Guera region and its fascinating mountains and vegetation. Transfer to hotel and meeting with locals, dinner and rest.

Mongo – N’Djamena

Crossing of the last stretch of Guera and the Ab peak. Then back to the road to N’Djamena, installation at the hotel, rest and transfer at airport.
